4-HLivestock CommitteeElects Officersand Superintendents
The Saline County 4-H Livestock Committee met on January 9th at the Extension office. Agenda items included electing officers and superintendents, setting meeting dates and setting weigh-in dates.Officers elected for the upcoming year are: Chairman – Dan Evans, Vice-Chairman Tim Arnold, and Secretary Rachel Parish.Livestock Superintendents are: Beef Matt Deal, Swine – Sam Glenn, Sheep – Lonny Reed/Brianna Johnson, Dairy and Meat Goats Rachel Parish, Dairy Cattle Jane Carlile, Rabbits Cindy Boulds/Gayla Heath, and Poultry & Small Pets Matt Deal/Amy Richey. Livestock Weigh in dates will be: Beef February 1, Swine April 4, and Lambs/Goats April 25.The next 4-H Livestock Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, at 7 pm at the Extension office. Save the Date for Speaking for Illinois 4-H We are looking for 4-H members interested in spreading the great news about 4-H. 4-H members 14 years of age or older can join the Speaking for Illinois 4-H team. The first spring training will be Saturday February 1 at the Jefferson County Extension Office in Mt. Vernon. The day-long training, provided by the Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team, gives you the chance to explore your own 4-H history and why you are involved. You will learn to put that story into words and learn the best ways to approach donors, civic groups, elected officials, and others to talk about 4-H. Learn why 4-H believes in positive youth development and how we emphasize the essential elements: Belonging, Independence, Generosity and Mastery. All of this – and more – is a part of Speaking for Illinois 4-H! Once you’re trained, you’ll receive an invitation to be a part of our Legislative Connection events at the State Capitol. There is a $12 fee to attend the training to cover the cost of lunch and supplies. . Save the date and be ready to sign up when registration opens in mid-January @ go.illinois.edu/sfi4H.
