Donor Program Visits Kiwanis

The Harrisburg Kiwanis held their weekly luncheon meeting on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Ponderosa. The Kiwanis One Day Event was held on April 7, 2018 at the Saline Creek Pioneer Village and Museum.
Bob Winchester’s guest speaker was Brian Bush, Community Outreach Coordinator of the Organ/Tissue Donor program of Illinois Secretary of State. Bush stated that as of January 1, 2018 young people of 16 & 17 years old can be donors. Organs that can be donated are: heart, both lungs, pancreas, kidneys, eyes, liver and intestines. Approximately 1,200 in Southern Illinois are needing an organ transplant. Bush described how tissue donated can be used by another person. Kiwanis member Stu Switzer is a donor survivor of 23 years of both lungs and a kidney. Shown in photo are President Don Pulliam, Brian Bush and Bob Winchester.
