The 2017 Saline County 4-H Achievement Night was held in the cafeteria of the Harrisburg Middle School on Monday, October 16, 2017. 4-H youth, leaders and volunteers were honored for their accomplishments during the past 4-H year.
Our emcees for the evening, past year and newly installed 2017-2018 4-H Federation officers, presented awards, certificates, plaques and trophies to county youth, leaders, and adult volunteers.
Following the American and 4-H pledges, new 4-H Federation officers were installed by 4-H Management Committee Chairman, James Bond. The 2017-2018 officers are: President Chloe Hopkins, Vice-President Callie Oxford, Secretary Christian Jean, and Treasurer Rachel Lands.
Retiring members, 10-year members, first year members and Cloverbuds were recognized, along with clubs that had special achievements. 4-H members retiring due to age after the last 4-H year were: Eli Bond, Clayton Boulds, Morgan Colbert, Austin Evans, Becky Gregory, Kayla Heath, Nathan Jean, Whitney McGuire, Eran Oglesby, Delaney Phelps, Corissa Price and Tommy Wilson. Youth reaching 10 years of membership in the 4-H program are awarded a plaque for their years of service. Those 10 year 4-H members are: Clayton Boulds, Scott Gates, Kayla Heath, Caleb Huelsmann, Matthew Rapp and Alex Watkins. We had 17 first year 4-H members and 12 Cloverbuds for the 2016-2017 4-H year.
Pleasant Valley Go-Getters 4-H club won the Scrapbook award, and Country Clovers 4-H club, with Secretary Shelby Pribble, won the Secretary’s Book award. Adrienne Poore was honored for winning the 2017 Handbook Cover Design Contest.
National 4-H Week Window Display contest winners received recognition certificates and monetary awards. First place went to Country Clovers, second place went to Lillian Siler, and third place went to Lads & Lassies. The National 4-H Week Poster Contest winner was Rachel Lands.
4-H Alumni Awards
Saline County 4-H was proud to recognize two individuals who were 4-H members in their youth and continue to support and give back to our 4-H program. We are so fortunate in Saline County to have so many who take a great interest in 4-H.
Alumni Awards and gifts were given this year to Brad Payne and Jaden Littlefield.
Trophies and plaques were awarded to members who received State Fair, County Champion, or Grand Champion honors at the 2017 Saline County 4-H shows and completed a records packet.
County Medals and County Blue Awards were given to members who displayed outstanding efforts toward accomplishing the objectives of individual project areas.
Leaders and adult volunteers were recognized. This year, we have 9 first year adult volunteers and 74 total adult volunteers. We are so fortunate to have three 4-H volunteers who have been with us for 35 years.
