States Attorney Visits Kiwanis


The Harrisburg Kiwanis held their weekly luncheon meeting on Wednesday, May 16, 2017 at Ponderosa. Fourteen members were present with President Tom Fleege telling about HHS Honors Night, May 4th and Special Olympics.
Sheriff Keith Brown’s guest speaker was Jayson Clark, Saline County States Attorney. Clark was born in Eldorado at Ferrell Hospital. Clark stated a lot of facts: 1) Opioids are the major drug problem, 2) 2010, 20% of Doctor visits resulted in opioid prescription, 3) Opioids are the most prescribed medication, 4) Opioid problem is people becoming hooked on them, 5) Opioids are prescribed for pain, 6) The U.S. is 4.6% of world population with 80% of opioids used and 99% of the hydrocodone use, 7) 16,000 people die per year due to over doses.
