CLOTHES MAKE KIDS HAPPY:
Proceeds from the upcoming “Taste of Southern Illinois” will support the Fowler Bonan Foundation “Clothes for SI Kids”, which has supplied thousands of smiles — just like this happy guy — with brand-new clothes and shoes. Tickets for the April 2 event are limited. Call the foundation at 618-231-3904 or visit www.tasteofsi.org for for more info.
It’s almost time to tantalize those taste buds and support the Fowler Bonan Foundation’s “Clothes for SI Kids” in what organizers say is “southern Illinois’ best food event of the year.”
The 19th annual “Taste of Southern Illinois” is on the horizon — from 5-8pm on Sunday, April 2 at the Bonan Business Center in Harrisburg — and again will feature signature offerings from some of southern Illinois’ very best eateries, and more.
All proceeds go to the Fowler Bonan Foundation’s “Clothes for SI Kids”, and a sell-out is anticipated.
Event founder Michael Tison, a Fowler Bonan Foundation board member, explains.
“We’ve always been cautious with the number of tickets sold. Food vendors have to calibrate their offerings, plus people need room to savor, mingle, and relax. So ticket sales are limited.”
On hand will be 17th Street Bar and Grill, 20’s Hideout Steakhouse, Harrah’s Metropolis restaurant, Johnson’s Southern Style Barbeque, Koerner Distributors, Kokopelli, Mackie’s Pizza, Marion Red Lobster, Panera Bread, Peking Palace, Pepsi MidAmerica, Rare Chophouse, The Red Onion, Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant, Wooded Hills Bar and Grill, Purple Toad Winery, and The Chocolate Factory.
“We bill it as ‘the best food event of the year’, and it’s a celebration of southern Illinois’ finest restaurants and beverages,” Tison added. “I think it’s a ‘can’t miss’ evening.”
This year’s “Taste” is presented in partnership with the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Bulldog Systems Inc., All in One Real Estate, and Wells Fargo / Tison Wealth Management.
Tickets are $40 per person and are available by calling Bethany Shaw at 618-253-2427, Tison at 618-253-4444 or 618-993-3513, or the Foundation office at 618-231-3904. Fowler Bonan board members Dale Fowler, Bill Bonan II, Andy Sisulak, Heather Tate, Marsha Collins, Callie Ellison, Teri Hammond, Bobbie Fox and Marsha Hayes can also be contacted for tickets. If any remain, they will be $50 at the door.
Entertainment will be provided by The Penguins — a musical group lead by Jim Smith — a continuing tradition since inception of the event way back in 1999.
“The longevity of the event really speaks to its’ success,” Shaw said. “We try to do it ‘first class’ all the way, and of course when you come and enjoy, you’re helping a disadvantaged child with new clothes and shoes. It’s a great evening of food and fellowship — all to help kids.” Shaw co-chairs the event along with Tison.
