Five years ago, lives in Saline and Gallatin Counties were rocked as a result of the devastating Leap Day Tornado. Since then, the communities have rallied together to rebuild and restore without forgetting the damage done or the lives lost.
To commemorate this tragic day, the Southeastern Illinois College Student Government held a fundraiser and sold bricks to create a memorial to honor those lost in the tornado and to leave a legacy for future students.
With the project completion expected by late-March, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony held Thursday, March 30 at 9 a.m. This event will be in the Harry L. Crisp Student Center Cafeteria and Patio at SIC and the public is invited to attend.
