Gene Fox, 83, of Harrisburg, passed away, Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Carrier Mills.
Gene was born in Cottage Township on May 24, 1935 to the late Marion and Charlotte (Davis) Fox. He was a member of the Pankeyville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and he had also served as Deacon at Big Ridge Church. He owned and operated Fox Brothers Feed Store in Eldorado with his brother Bill. He was a man that loved his family very much, being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he always enjoyed making everyone laugh.
On September 27, 1953 he married the former Jean Cletcher and she survives in Carrier Mills. Also surviving are his children: Charles Ray Fox of Carrier Mills, Beth (Jerry) Gulley of Carrier Mills and Lori (Tim) Wilson of Broughton. Also survived are eight grandchildren: Phillip (Nicole) Fox, Missy (Ben Donley) Fox, Chris (Dawn) Gulley, Sam (Brandy) Gulley, Jessie (Travis) Groves, Cassie Wilson, Lance Wilson and Noah Wilson. And 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Sue (Jerry) Slay of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald Fox, Charles Fox, Kenneth Fox and Bill Fox and a sister Alma Lovelette
Funeral services for Gene will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Watson Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Donnie Hughes and Rev. Ernie Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Big Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until services time of 1:00 PM.
Memorials in his memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Big Ridge Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
