On January 23, 2018, Brian T. Burns, age 58, of Harrisburg, Illinois was sentenced by
Judge Walden E. Morris in Saline County, Illinois Circuit Court to a total of 20 years in the
Illinois Department of Corrections. Burns was found guilty of Solicitation of Aggravated
Kidnapping following a jury trial that commenced on May 12, 2017. Burns must serve 85%
of the sentence imposed under Illinois law.

On September 28, 2016, the Saline County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges
against Burns after he solicited an undercover law enforcement officer to kidnap former
Saline County State’s Attorney Mike Henshaw. Matt Goetten of the Illinois State’s Attorney
Appellate Prosecutor’s Office handled the successful prosecution of the case.
