Charles Lee “Charlie” Conwell, age 63 of Harrisburg, formerly of Galatia, passed away at 4:04 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Herrin Hospital.
Charlie was born on Wednesday, November 11, 1953 in Harrisburg to the late Charles Kenneth and Edna Lee (Clark) Conwell. Charlie work as a butcher, most recently for Russell Oil Company in Galatia. Charlie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galatia, and the Galatia Masonic Lodge # 684. He was an avid sports fan and was dedicated to the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved trains and was a Ham Radio Operator.
Charlie is survived by a son, Russell Conwell of Benton, Illinois; sister, Emily Anderson of Galatia, Illinois; nephew, Randy Anderson and wife Jeanette of Galatia; great nephews, Patrick Anderson, and Tyler Anderson both of Galatia; and ten cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth Devere Conwell; paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Hariet Conwell; maternal grandparents, Henry and Lizzie Clark; five aunts and uncles; and one cousin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Derek Downs will officiate and burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will held from 5 PM to 8 PM, Monday, August 14, 2017 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Masonic rites will begin at 7 PM and will be conducted by the Galatia Mason Lodge # 684. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Cemetery in Charlie’s honor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
