Rotary learns of Fraud Alerts


The Harrisburg Rotary held their weekly luncheon meeting on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Ponderosa. Rocky Hull presided over the meeting, Debbie Hughes guest speaker was Ella L. York of the Office of Attorney General. York reported on some the most common scams against seniors: IRS Scam calls, Grandparent scam, prize/sweepstakes/free gift scams, Phishing/Spoofing scam, Wandering contractors scam, Investment/Ponzi schemes, friendship/sweetheart scam. Work-at-home scams, free trial offer scams and bereavement scam. Other bureaus of the Attorney General handle; ID Theft, student loan scams, information on charities, disability rights and veterans rights, The Attorney General listens to consumer complaints and mediates as necessary. Complaints may be reported to the Carbondale office at 618-529-6400.
