Area high schools will send some of their brightest students to SIC on February 2nd for the 43rd Annual Academic Challenge; Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Competition (W.Y.S.E.). Inclement weather date set for February 9th. The Academic Challenge is an academic tournament with competition for individuals and schools. Students will demonstrate their abilities in two of the following areas: biology, chemistry, computer fundamentals, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics. Participating schools include: Galatia, Eldorado, Harrisburg, Carrier Mills-Stonefort, Carmi-White, Gallatin County, Hardin County, NCOE, and Pope County. The event, the state’s largest, most comprehensive academic competition, will be held at the SIC lecture hall B126 E & W. World Wide Youth in Science and Engineering, headquartered at the University of Illinois, sponsors the Academic Challenge across the state, while the Math & Science Division hosts the competition at Southeastern. SIU will be hosting the sectional competition in March for all the divisions. In addition to the group competition, individual all-stars, who achieve superior scores in the regional contests in February, will vie for top sectional & state honors.
