The Saline County 4-H General Show was held on Saturday, July 16, at Dorrisville Baptist Church. 4-H members showed their talents to the judges as they exhibited a wide variety of projects.
County Champion ribbons were awarded to Luke Barton (Bowling), Hannah Haney (Collections – Hobby), Emma Carlile (Softball), Callie Oxford (Community Service), Rachel Lands (Bicycle 2 and Communications 1), and Chloe Hopkins (Journalism).
There are many popular projects for youth interested in Natural Resources and Animals. In the Animal Science class, State Fair ribbons were awarded to Breanna Lorimer (Animal Science – Cat) and Madison Sisney (Animal Science – Goat). A State Fair Alternate ribbon was awarded to Hannah Haney (Animal Science – Horse). In the Veterinary Science class, a State Fair ribbon went to Jaci Wood (Veterinary Science 1) and a State Fair Alternate ribbon went to Chloe Hopkins (Veterinary Science 3).
State Fair Honors were awarded to Rachel Lands (Outdoor Adventures 2 and Entomology Display), Drake Wilson (Forestry 1), Sierra Wilson (Entomology 1), and Christian Jean (Rock Hounds 1). A County Champion ribbon was awarded to Drew Stacy (Mammals – Taxidermy).
State Fair ribbons were awarded to Callie Oxford (Citizenship 3), Jaci Wood (Citizenship 1), Nathan Jean (Computer Science-Advanced Programming), Ethan Womble (Computer Science-Newbie Know-How) and Kayla Lorimer (Health 3). A State Fair Alternate ribbon went to Kailyn Williams (Citizenship 1).
In the Mechanical Sciences and Wood Sciences, State Fair ribbons were awarded to Loren Pribble (Electricity 2), Wils Evans (Tractor A), Rachel Lands (Tractor B), Drew Stacy (Woodworking 4), and Joselyn Bender (Woodworking 1). State Fair Alternate ribbons were awarded to Wyatt Arnold (Woodworking 1) and Zane Carlile (Woodworking 2).
Earning State Fair honors for Horticulture and Floriculture projects this year were: Haylee Daye Brown (Floriculture A and Vegetable Market Basket), Rachel Lands (Floriculture Display), and Wyatt Arnold (Vegetable Plate). State Fair Alternate ribbons went to Jason Adams (Floriculture A), Loren Pribble (Vegetable Plate), and Zane Carlile (Vegetable Market Basket).
A special award was presented this year to a talented exhibitor in the Horticulture/Gardening/Plants project areas. The 2016 4-H Bright Futures Award was sponsored by Green Leaf Incorporated and Tractor Supply Company and was offered in nearly 300 counties in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio to recognize outstanding youth in 4-H Youth Development agricultural programs areas. Haylee Daye Brown, a member of the Lads & Lassies 4-H club, was awarded a plaque and a $25 Visa gift card at the General Show for her outstanding Horticultural project.
State Fair ribbons for Photography and Videography were awarded to Noah Boulds (Photography 1), Mariah Fletcher (Photography 1), Kayla Lorimer (Photo Editing), Kevin Adams (Photography 2) and Nathan Jean (Animated Video). State Fair Alternate ribbons went to Makayla Miller (Photography 1), Joel Glenn (Photography 1), Alexander Johnson (Photography 1) and Kayla Lorimer (Photography 2).
State Fair ribbons for Visual Arts were awarded to McKenzie Ratliff (Chalk/Carbon/Pigment), Rachel Myers (Chalk/Carbon/Pigment), Tommy Wilson (Clay and Metal), Tristin Holmes (Computer Generated Art), Emma Carlile (Glass/Plastic), Shelby Pribble (Heritage Arts and Paper), Jason Adams (Nature), Sierra Wilson (Paper), Alison Riddle (Scrapbooking), Drake Wilson (3D/Mixed Media) and Colin Huelsmann (Wood).
Visual Arts State Fair Alternate ribbon winners were Maddison Truitt (Chalk/Carbon/Pigment), Courtney Boulds (Chalk/Carbon/Pigment), Drew Stacy (Clay), Emma Bradley (Glass/Plastic), Sierra Wilson (Heritage Arts), Grayson Rann (Metal), Tommy Wilson (Nature), McKenzie Ratliff (3D/Mixed Media) and Emma Carlile (Wood).
