HMC Welcomes new orthopedic surgeon

Courtney Drone HMC Director of Marketing & Foundation

In an innovate new collaborative venture, Harrisburg Medical Center and Morthland College Health Services are pleased to welcome orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Kevin Koth to the team. Dr. Koth trained in the spinal surgery subspecialty through a fellowship at St. Joseph Medical Center in Ohio. He is an expert in performing direct superior total hip arthroplasty, an approach to hip replacement that lessens muscle and tendon damage, lowers dislocation rates, and minimizes pain.
Dr. Koth’s hiring means residents of the Harrisburg area can get needed surgeries and obtain orthopedic treatment closer to home, rather than being elsewhere.
“We feel the patients that we serve should not have to travel to receive healthcare services that can be done right here close to home. Bringing in Orthopedic services has always been a goal for this organization, and working with Dr. Morthland on achieving this goal has been exciting and an honor,” said HMC CEO Rodney Smith.
In 2013, Harrisburg Medical Center collaborated with Morthland College Health Services to bring in a new hospitalist program at HMC. It has become evident that both HMC and MCHS share a vision to add new service lines in smaller communities, and Dr. Koth’s hiring is just one more way we are bringing specialty services to people in the Harrisburg area.
“In looking back through files the other evening, I noticed that it has been almost exactly two years since Rodney and I first rolled up our sleeves to look at adding orthopedic services at HMC. It is an honor for Dr. Koth to join the Morthland College Specialty Physicians team and for us to be able to help HMC execute this integral component of the hospital’s strategic plan for growth,” said MCHS President Dr. Timothy Morthland.
Dr. Koth will begin taking patients in Harrisburg on May 1.
